The Ohio University community mourns the loss of student Yaara Mashmoor, 21, who died Thursday morning around 4 a.m. after Athens County Emergency Medical Services was called to her off-campus residence on Grosvenor Street.
An Athens Police Department report stated that Mashmoor, a psychology major from Pepper Pike, Ohio, was pronounced dead on arrival to O'Bleness Hospital.
"I was saddened to learn of Yaara's passing this morning," said Ryan Lombardi, Ohio University Dean of Students. "On behalf of Ohio University, I extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends. I know the fond memories we have of her will help us all through this difficult time."
Bruce Carlson, chair of the Department of Psychology, also expressed his condolences.
"Anytime we lose a student it is tragic," Carlson said. "As a parent, I can't imagine how her family must feel. The department mourns her loss."
