From staff reports
On Friday, Ohio University officially kicked off its participation in the United Appeal for Athens County's annual fund drive.
Thus far, the campaign appears to be on track for success.
"To date, we have $22,064 in gifts and pledges, 44 percent of our goal, and 114 employees who have participated, three percent of our goal," said Jessica Wingett, campaign committee chair and manager in the Office of Research and Grants at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The University hopes to raise $50,000 for the United Appeal with 10 percent of faculty and staff participating.
Pledge cards were distributed this month and all employees can submit their completed pledge card through interoffice mail.
There are incentives to giving to the United Appeal. Those who give at least $52 will receive a card valid for discounts at local businesses and a canvas grocery tote bag.
United Appeal is a charitable organization that uses its funds to better the lives of the residents of Athens County and provide them with their every day needs. Donations given to United Appeal are used to help organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Athens County Food Pantry, and Habitat for Humanity, Girl Scouts and United Seniors of Athens County.
