By George Mauzy
Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.
How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?
I was very surprised. I didn’t expect it at all.
What is your job title and how long have you worked it?
Administrative Associate in the School of Journalism and I've worked here for four years.
What is the most enjoyable thing about your job?
I enjoy working with my director on different projects.
What is your hometown and where do you live now?
I live in McArthur, Ohio, which is where I was born.
What are your long-term goals?
Just to enjoy every day. Life is way too short.
What was the last good book you read?
I never seem to have time to sit down and read.
If you weren't in your present job, you would be a ___.
I would be an entrepreneur. I always enjoyed working for myself in the field of natural resources, i.e. natural gas, coal, etc.
What things in life are the most important to you?
My family, friends, and Shepherd's House, which is a domestic violence shelter in my hometown, is also very important to me. I began the shelter in 1998 and with grants and donations we have been able to keep the doors open.
Where is your favorite vacation destination?
Someday I would like to take my mom to Hawaii, because she has always wanted to go there.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy dancing and riding horses.
What are your favorite TV shows?
I would say NCIS and shows like that.
What is your favorite type of music?
Country music and oldies would be my first chose. I actually enjoy any kind of music, except hard rock. I guess I'm too old to understand it.
What are the next big events you can't wait for?
My granddaughter LeAnn's wedding and my granddaughter Tia's birth of my first great grandson.
Who are the most annoying celebrities to you and why?
I don't like celebrities who act as if they are the most important person in the world and do not credit their fans for where they are.
What is your favorite saying or quote?
"Real confidence comes from knowing and accepting yourself - your strengths and your limitations – in contrast to depending on affirmation from others." -- Judith Bardwick
