Summer was a busy time for road construction in Athens. The roundabout on Richland Avenue and SR 682 was taking rapid shape and Jeff Hill, located at the end of E. Union Street, was being rehabilitated.
To celebrate these projects, the city has invited the public to, “Please join the City of Athens* for the E. Union Street – Jeff Hill Rehabilitation ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at the top of Jeff Hill on E. Union Street. The brief ceremony will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m.”
Representatives from Ohio University and the City of Athens will attend the ceremony and celebrate this joint achievement.
A more noticeable change is also being celebrated this weekend. The dedication of the Richland Avenue Bridge and roundabout, at the intersection of Richland Avenue and SR 682, will occur on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. It will take place in Southside Park, near the new bike path tunnel.
In a news release, the city said, “There will be several speakers, musicians from Athens High School and Ohio University will provide entertainment, and light refreshments will be served.”
Attendees are encouraged to park in the Southside Park parking lot off Dairy Lane and at The Ridges.
