2011 Alumni Award recipients announced

The recipients for the 2011 Ohio University Alumni Association Awards were presented and approved at the recent annual meeting of the Ohio University Alumni Association Board of Directors.  These awards will be presented during Homecoming weekend at the annual Alumni Awards Gala, to be held on Oct. 14.

Alumnus of the Year
This honoree must have previously been awarded the Medal of Merit or Distinguished Service Award, and demonstrated him or herself as a distinguishable professional in his or her field or demonstrated notable service and continued support to Ohio University.

• Andrew N. Alexander, BSJ ’72 (Washington, D.C.), Washington Bureau Chief for Cox Newspapers

Medal of Merit recipients
This is awarded to alumni who have achieved distinction in their chosen fields.

• Carla Lucchino, MSIS ’82 (Lorton, Va.), Assistant for Administration to the Secretary of the Navy

• Everett Louis Overstreet, BSCE ’67 (Las Vegas) retired Executive Director of Las Vegas Urban Chamber of Commerce

• William J. Rakatansky, BARC ’72 (Charlotte, N.C.), Principal/Owner of R&M Group

• Matthew Stark, BSED AB ’51 (Fort Myers, Fla.), retired Executive Director of the Minnesota Civil Liberties Union

Distinguished Service
This award recognizes those who provide active, exceptional services on behalf of alumni clubs, chapters, constituent societies and, in special instances, extraordinary contributions to Ohio University colleges and schools.

• Thomas J. Starr, BBA ’69 (Cincinnati) Founder & CEO Miracles for Life

Honorary Alumnus/Alumna
This title is awarded to non-alumni who have rendered valuable service to Ohio University or the Alumni Association and whose efforts have positively impacted students, faculty, staff and community.

• Fredrick C. “Frtiz” Hagerman, Ph.D, (Athens) Professor Emeritus of Biomedical Sciences

Each of these recipients has demonstrated both achievement and commitment in their post-collegiate lives. While some may not be alumni, they have certainly supported, contributed, and represented the OHIO community to the conviction of a Bobcat. The Ohio University Alumni Association proudly honors those who have remained dedicated to Ohio University and continue to achieve remarkable success in all their endeavors.
