Update to Feb.9 urgent safety message


Ohio University police continue to investigate the apparent gunshot heard vicinity East Green this morning by a student in Tiffin Hall.

Ohio University police canvassed the area and interviewed residents of Tiffin Hall and the immediate vicinity.  Additional officers were called in to assist with the investigation and provide extra patrol on campus.

No new information has been reported and there is no indication at this time that anyone was hurt.  There have been no reports of any other gunshots or violence on campus.

In response to the incident, the Division of Student Affairs and Residence Life staff will be conducting well being checks of students living in Tiffin, Gammertsfelder, Read, Johnson, Washington and Jefferson Halls.  These checks are planned to be complete this evening.
 
Ohio University police do not believe there is an imminent threat, but they do urge students, faculty and staff to be alert and aware of their surroundings, and to report to them any suspicious activity or noise.
 
Police continue to ask that anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious this morning in the area of East Green, to call 740-593-1911 immediately.
