Administration developing early retirement and voluntary separation plans for employees

More details to be shared Feb. 21


Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit and Vice President for Finance and Administration Stephen Golding addressed this letter to the Ohio University community today. The letter addresses an incentivized voluntary separation program for faculty and an early retirement program for faculty and staff.


Dear Colleagues:

As part of our work on the overall multi-year budget strategy, we presented to President McDavis the case for moving forward with planning for an incentivized voluntary separation program for faculty and early retirement programs for faculty and staff.

The goals of these programs would be:

  • To provide increased flexibility in developing budget reduction plans.

  • To create an unprecedented opportunity for units to initiate programmatic approaches that will heighten their ability to set a dynamic course for the future. 


President McDavis has agreed that we should move ahead and develop programs that will create opportunities for eligible employees and enhance the ability of the University to adapt to changing circumstances. We have begun that work, keeping in mind that any employee programs along these lines must receive Board of Trustees approval.

We are sharing this update with you now because we know there are members of the University community who have been anxious to hear about the possibility of such a proposal. However, there are many details that remain to be worked out, so we ask for your patience as we complete that work. 

Our goal is to provide a general overview of the programs to University employees on Monday, Feb. 21, followed by presentation to the Board of Trustees at their meetings on Feb. 24 and 25.
