Call for employees to volunteer on Halloween

Volunteers will receive a $50 Baker University Center gift card

The 2010 Halloween celebration in Athens is Saturday, Oct. 30.  The University uses a volunteer program, known as “Green Jackets,” to provide an additional presence on campus and in surrounding areas in an effort to help keep the Ohio University community safe during the celebration.

Please consider volunteering to be a Green Jacket. Each pair of volunteers walks designated areas equipped with a flashlight, two-way radio and a clearly marked OHIO staff jacket and hat.

The Green Jacket’s role is to be a presence to help keep high risk behavior to a minimum, provide assistance when necessary, serve as community eyes and ears and as a conduit to police (if needed), and check the doors of buildings.

The shift is six hours, 9:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m., and food and beverages will be provided during breaks. Volunteers will receive a $50 gift card for Baker University Center in appreciation for their efforts.

Typically, 80-90 Green Jacket volunteers are needed for the night.  If interested, please contact Clara Ledford at ledford@ohio.edu by no later than Friday, Oct. 22.
