Jeff Kallet to show artwork at Ohio University Eastern Campus gallery

Jeff Kallet, marketing associate for Ohio University Press and artist, will be exhibiting his work at the Ohio University Eastern Campus’ art gallery Jan. 27 through Feb. 24. The exhibit, “Collected, Cut and Composed,” will display his talents in collage.

“I have my own unique approach to collage,” said Kallet. “I consider myself a treasure hunter of sorts. For example, I generally begin a project by searching for paper-based material in recycling bins, flea markets, or yard sales. The next step for me is to use the process of experimentation to find creative ways to arrange the papers, which leads to both abstract and representational works of art.”

The exhibit features aged papers that include a variety of information and colors. For example, foreign languages, ad copy, scientific discourse, dated political tracts and many other items can be seen in his work.

“I enjoy mixing all of these disparate things into something that comes together in a unified way or allows the different elements to clash,” said Kallet.

Kallet’s work has been shown in both individual and group shows throughout the state of Ohio since 1997. Venues include Coburn Art Gallery in Ashland, Ohio; Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens; Mahan Gallery in Columbus, Ohio; Mansfield Art Center in Mansfield, Ohio; and Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville, Ohio.

Kallet earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Kenyon College in 1990. His educational background naturally led him into the field of news media, journalism and public relations. He has worked as a newspaper reporter, children’s editor, and is now works with Ohio University Press.
