University Communications and Marketing (UCM) met and exceeded the challenges presented by OHIO’s busy spring quarter. UCM’s commitment to continuous improvement in written, graphic and visual communication not only resulted in a well-informed OHIO community, but a new face for university news, Ohio University Compass.
This April UCM launched Ohio University Compass in response to survey results received the previous spring. The website is a true collaboration between all aspects of UCM and departments across the university community. Following reader recommendations, the home of OHIO news now features different news categories and more images than ever before to make finding information efficient and pleasant.
In May, UCM also launched another new publication, Compass Points, the e-newsletter for faculty and staff. The bi-weekly newsletter introduces and distills news that touches employees’ personal and professional lives. Promotions, policies, events and developments are covered in an easy-to-read HTML e-mail.
During the spring the external relations team worked with media outlets to keep them informed of developments and the numerous achievements at OHIO. In addition to tracking thousands of media placements and distributing dozens of news releases, external relations also developed marketing and advertising materials and strategic communications plans. The team answered hundred of media requests and offered media OHIO experts for interviews. The team also provided communications counsel to many campus departments.
The productivity and caliber of work produced this spring quarter would not have been possible without the contributions of UCM’s students. In the spring UCM mentored more than 20 students through internships, work study and the Program to Aid Career Exploration. The students’ worked in a variety of capacities, always assisting UCM to reach its goal of providing excellence in communication to the OHIO community.
