From staff reports
Human Resources, with the assistance of OIT, has brought back online open enrollment for health insurance. The enrollment, which runs through May 28, replaces a paper version of the process that was used last year.
"We’re excited to have the online system back," said Greg Fialko, director of benefits in University Human Resources. "The process will be much easier for employees since the information will be at their fingertips."
One new option for this upcoming enrollment is the ability to cover adult children under employees’ health plan. The State of Ohio passed legislation that allows employees to cover children up to age 28. Previously, children over age 19 were only eligible for coverage under the university’s health insurance if they were a full time student and under age 25.
There are conditions to this new option, however. Under this state law, adult children age 19-27 may be added to an employee’s health plan if the adult child is either a full-time student or a resident of the state of Ohio, unmarried, and, if they are employed, they are not offered health insurance by their employer, and are not eligible for Medicaid or Medicare.
The employee benefit plan runs from July to June. Any enrollment decision made will be effective as of July 1. Enrollment will officially end at 11:59 p.m. on May 28.
