Ohio University Chillicothe is accepting applications for its Southern Ohio Quantifying Uncertainty and Analyzing Numerical Trends (QUANT) professional development program for math teachers of grades 8-12.
The yearlong program features a weeklong summer institute, followed by online instructor-led modules and a two-day summer workshop. The program is for commuters only, and the summer institute and workshop will be June 14–18 and Aug. 5–6, with weekly modules between these dates.
The goal of the program is to develop content knowledge, pedagogical expertise and skill in using technology for data analysis, probability and statistics. Participants will explore these concepts in-depth using TI-nspire handheld computers and data-collection devices as tools for teaching and learning. QUANT will be followed by ongoing online support and daylong Friday workshops on Oct. 1 and March 4, 2011.
Participants in the QUANT program will receive $500 worth of materials, access to additional resources, plus food and stipends. Optional graduate credit will be available at a reduced tuition rate for participants.
