Can We Safely and Successfully Re-engineer Humanity?
Three panelists will discuss the question, "Can we safely and successfully re-engineer humanity?" from noon-1:30 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Panelists will include Dr. C. Christopher Hook, a physician at the Mayo Clinic; Dr. Scott Carson, a professor of philosophy at Ohio University; and Scott Robe, J.D., an Athens-area attorney. Tim Sharp, News Director of WOUB, will facilitate the panel.

Dr. Hook is a practicing medical doctor (oncology and hematology) at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and a researcher in the field of medical ethics. He is the founder of the Mayo Clinical Ethics Council, the Ethics Consultation Service, the Ethics Education Committee, the Reproductive Medicine Advisory Board, the DNA Research Sub-committee of the IRB, and the Institutional Ethics & Bioterrorism Task Force. Dr. Carson is an associate professor of philosophy at Ohio University whose research interests include the history and philosophy of the natural sciences. He has written on the structure of evolutionary theory, mechanistic explanation in the philosophy of chemistry, and the role of indeterminacy in scientific theories generally.
Scott Robe is an Athens-area attorney. He is an avid scholar of history, philosophy and ethics, and their relationship to law. He has participated in panel discussions with such notables as Dr. William Lane Craig.
