Students Invited to Participate in the 2014 Ohio Clean Energy Challenge
Have an idea for an amazing clean energy business but need some help getting started? Ohio University students are invited to participate in the 2014 Ohio Clean Energy Challenge. This Challenge, sponsored by the Department of Energy and the University Clean Energy Alliance of Ohio (UCEAO), is a clean energy business pitch competition for students across the state and the nation.
Students who participate in the Challenge work in teams to choose a clean energy technology and develop a business plan around it, working with advisors from their university and from the industry. The UCEAO has selected a Challenge Champion from every participating school, and this person will coordinate with the teams to get them prepared for the competition.
There are three levels of competition. Teams that get their university's approval will attend the state competition, which will take place on January 29, 2014. The winners at this level will receive the $10,000 state prize and continue to the next level. Here they will have the opportunity to compete with teams from across the Midwest for the $100,000 grand prize.
The regional winners will also get to participate in the national competition in Washington, D.C.
The UCEAO will be hosting a pair of webinars to provide more detailed information about the Challenge. The first webinar will be Friday, September 13 from noon-1 p.m. The second will be on Tuesday, September 17 from noon-1 p.m. The content will be the same during both webinars.
Teams that are interested in in applying for the Challenge must complete an Intent to Apply form by Friday, October 4.
This form will include the team's name and school affiliation, the names of the team members, the list of advisors, the type of technology the team will produce, a description of the technology or product, the sources of intellectual property, and a list of the team's goals.
If you are interested in joining or forming a team, contact Ohio University's Challenge Coordinator Faith Knutsen at email@example.com. For more information, go to the UCEAO's website at www.uceao.org/challenge.
