Phase I: Discover

September 1999 - March 2000

During the Discover Phase the University's culture, perceptions of the current plan and expectations (in terms of compensation) were assessed. This phase included project planning and definition, strategy clarification and cultural assessment, and a market assessment. The new compensation plan designs will be a result of research and data collection based on 1)interviews, 2)focus groups, 3)opinion surveys, and 4) compilation of job information and 5)labor market data.

Cultural Assessment

Leadership interviews with the President, Provost, VPs, and Deans

Employee Focus Groups:

- A supervisory and a non-supervisory group based on recommendations from Faculty, Administrative, and Classified Senate executives.
- Information Technology & Broadcasting
- Nursing & Lab
- Secretarial & Clerical
- Supervision in Bargaining Unit department

Opinion Survey (January 2000)

- All Classified Non-Bargaining staff and Administrative staff will have the opportunity to complete the survey.

Competitive Pay Assessment

Collect job information through the Job Information Questionnaire (JIQ) process. All classified and IT employees will have the opportunity to complete a JIQ.

Price OU jobs to market data.

The result of the Discover Phase will be to develop a compensation and reward program and then gain leadership approval for that strategy before moving to Phase II.
