Exploring Bioinformatics Class (CS 690). Fall 2009

Time and Place: Wednesdays, 3:10pm to 4:00pm in Stocker 326

This course introduces students to current research topics in the field of bioinformatics. 

Definitions of Bioinformatics on the Web:

• The collection, organization and analysis of large amounts of biological data, using networks of computers and databases. www.abc.net.au/science/slab/genome2001/glossary.htm
• The process of developing tools and processes to quantify and collect data to study biological systems logically. www.als.net/als101/glossary.asp

The course consists of weekly discussion-oriented meetings.  All students are exposed to important issues in bioinformatics research via answering a series questions posed by the professor.  Individual grades for in-class activities are based on each student’s presence, participation, and preparation.
