Dr. Jundong Liu has recently received a research grant from the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging at the University of Kentucky for the project titled "Deformation-based Morphometry Analysis for Aging Studies".
The primary goal of this project is to identify imaging and biomarker metrics that can potentially serve as reliable bases in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) diagnosis and prevention. Advanced image alignment tools are being developed to answer 1) for each individual AD patient, how does the atrophy change as the clinical stages progress? 2) What is the magnitude of the change? 3) For a group of AD patients, is there any common shrinkage pattern among them? So far, Dr. Liu and his collaborators have successfully answered the first two questions, and they are currently working on the third. New findings of this study have been submitted to prestigious conferences and journals for publication.
