Director's Message
Welcome to the newly redesigned Web site of the Department of Social and Public Health at Ohio University. Our site is one of the many ways by which we endeavor to make connections with prospective and current students, alumni, employees, businesses, industries, philanthropists and prospective and current faculty and staff. I hope this site will be beneficial to you and that all the resources provided will be adequate for your needs.
The health profession is one of the fastest-growing industries throughout the world, and also one of the most diverse. Top-notch careers come and go, especially those that offer an abundance of employment opportunities for just a few years, but fade away as the novelty diminishes. Health professionals, however, will always be in demand, because what could be more important than the health and well-being of our society? It is therefore my pleasure to bring to your attention the opportunities for undergraduate and graduate studies in the Department of Social and Public Health.
You should be aware of the excellent career opportunities available in the Health and Environmental Sciences professions. After earning your undergraduate degree in the Department of Social and Public Health from any of our disciplines (Child and Family Studies,Community Health Services, Environmental Health and Safety, Health Care Services Administration, Industrial Hygiene, Long Term Health Care Administration, and Public Health), you will have many opportunities for work in industries, government agencies, health departments, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, health maintenance organizations, long-term care facilities, and other health-related industries.
The need for health/environmental health care professionals throughout the nation and abroad gives our graduates the opportunity to step into significant career positions in the job market. There are extraordinary opportunities for advancement in the health and health-related disciplines especially if you can pursue your interests with us and follow up with a graduate degree.Gerontology, Health Care Services Administration, African Community Health Services, and Health Policy Graduate Certificate programs are also available for students in any major program areas who may want to gain knowledge and skills for a career that involves working with the elderly and in health care administration facilities and organizations. In addition to the Master of Health Administration graduate program which is offered online, the school also offers the Master of Public Health (MPH) graduate degree in collaboration with the Consortium of Eastern Ohio (CEO) Universities MPH program known as CEOMPH.
We'd love to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to contact me or our office. Thank you for visiting our Web site and for your interest in Ohio University, particularly the Department of Social and Public Health.
