The Department of Chemistry at Ohio University is an exceptional place to study chemistry. The size of the organic division, and department as a whole, are ideally suited for developing strong collaborative interactions between students and faculty.
Faculty members within the division of organic chemistry are interested in a wide array of research areas. These include natural product synthesis, development of new synthetic methodology, medicinal chemistry, RNA structure/function and nanotechnology.
Many of the faculty are involved in collaborative projects within the department as well as with research groups in other departments both within and outside of Ohio University. Collaborations with researchers at other universities as well as within Ohio University are actively sought and encouraged. These collaborative research interactions greatly enhance the graduate students experiences and future productivity.
The faculty of the division of organic chemistry as well as the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry are equipped with all of the instrumentation and equipment for conducting state-of-the-art research in organic and medicinal chemistry. Within the division of organic chemistry are a variety of molecular modeling workstations, HPLC and GC instruments. The department is equipped with three NMR spectrometers, molecular modeling workstations as well as many other instruments for conducting state-of-the-art research in organic and medicinal chemistry.
Recent graduates from the faculty have gone on to excellent positions in places such as University of Florida, North Carolina State University, Notre Dame University, Abbott Labs, AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, Merck Labs, Parke-Davis, Pharmacia and Ibis Pharmaceuticals.
