The NMR facility is a full service facility in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry under the supervision of Dr. P. Kumar. The facility currently operates 3 NMR spectrometers: a Varian INOVA500, a Varian VXR400s, and a Bruker AF-250. The two Varian spectrometers are located in room 002 of the RTECH building, and the Bruker spectrometer is located in room 232 of Clippinger Laboratories.

The NMR facility is equiped with 4 workstations for both spectrometer operation and off-line data processing. We have an SGI O2, two SUN SPARCstation5, and a SUN3. The SUN3 will be retired soon and we will try to make it a decent X terminal for data processing only.

The facility is open to its users for hands-on operations after a proper training has been received. For occassional users and for those who want to run non-routine experiments, Dr. Kumar will be more than happy to assist you.

For more information, please feel free to contact Dr. Kumar by phone (3-2738) or by email (kumar@nmr.chem.ohiou.edu).

Inova 500
This instrument was installed in September 1996. It has the following technical features:
  • A 3 rf-channel console with shaped pulse capability on two channels. They can also be configured to provide shaped PFG capabilities.
  • Performa II Pulsed field gradient module.
  • A SUN SparcStation 5 for instrument control and data processing.
  • High precision variable temperature control.
  • 5-mm 1H{13C/15N} triple resonance indirect PFG probe.
  • 5-mm 1H{15N-31P} indirect NMR probe.
  • 5-mm broadband probe.
  • An SGI O2 with 192 MB of memory for off-line data processing and molecular modelling.
  • A Jaz Drive with 14 GB of media for data archival.

VXR400s
This instrument is mainly for routine liquid and solid applications. A 9-sample Carousel autosampler makes batch work easier. We have the following probes for various needs:
  • 5-mm 1H/19F
  • 10-mm 1H/19F
  • 5-mm broadband
  • 10-mm broadband
  • a dotty solid state NMR probe

AF-250
This spectrometer is for walk-in usage for the users of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. It is running DISNMR on an ASPECT 3000 computer. It is linked to a 486DX4-66 PC running WIN-NMR for off-line data processing and plotting. The scheduling of this instrument is on a first-come, first-serve base and a sign-up sheet for overnight usage.
