The chemical engineering pre-approved technical electives list linked from this page applies to all course work taken after September 1, 1999. Other courses not in the pre-approved list may be taken with the prior, written approval of your academic advisor. CHE 490 (special investigations) may fulfill up to three hours of your technical elective requirement. No more than three hours of your total technical elective requirement can be made up of special investigations/independent study from any source. Special investigation courses taken in departments other than chemical engineering must be approved, in writing, by your advisor or the department chair prior to undertaking the special investigation.
Some of the pre-approved technical electives listed have prerequisites listed within the parentheses which differ from those listed in the catalog. These alternate prerequisites have occasionally been accepted as alternates to those prerequisites listed in the catalog. The acceptance of alternate prerequisites is at the discretion of the individual course instructor. In general, other Russ College departments have accepted chemical engineering courses in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow in place of their courses. It is the responsibility of the student to check with individual instructors about course prerequisites.
