Nukhet Sandal is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Ohio University and Director of the War & Peace Studies Program in OHIO's Center for International Studies.

Education

She earned a Ph.D. in Politics and International Relations from University of Southern California in 2010 and she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Watson Institute of International Studies at Brown University between 2010-13.

Research

Her research and teaching interests include human security, religion and global politics, conflict management and politics of divided societies.

Publications

Sandal has published articles in the European Journal of International Relations, International Politics, Review of International Studies, Alternatives, Political Studies, West European Politics, Human Rights Quarterly, and Canadian Journal of Political Science.

Her article, “Religious Actors as Epistemic Communities in Conflict Transformation: The Cases of Northern Ireland and South Africa” was awarded the “Best 2011 Article in Review of International Studies” by BISA/Cambridge University Press. Her book (with Jonathan Fox), Religion in International Relations Theory: Interactions and Possibilities came out in 2013 from Routledge, and her book manuscript on the role of religious actors in the Northern Irish conflict transformation process is currently under review. Currently, Sandal is working on finishing another book project on the rights of non-Muslim minorities in the Middle East.

Sandal is the Chair of the Ethnicity, Nationalism and Migration Section and the Vice Chair of the Religion and International Relations Section of the International Studies Association.
