RE: Rosh Hashanah Observance and Women's Panhellenic Association Formal Recruitment
The Women's Panhellenic Association (WPA) Formal Recruitment program is scheduled to occur September 18 – 20 and 25 -27, 2009. We recognized that this recruitment corresponds to the Jewish High Holy Day season, and we're making changes in our schedule to reflect our commitment to our Jewish students and their families. The daily program schedule is now as follows:
Friday, September 18: Recruitment Kickoff, 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Saturday, September 19: Welcome Day, 1:00pm – 8:00pm (previously 12:00pm – 7:00pm)
Sunday, September 20: Philanthropy Day, 1:00pm – 8:15pm
Friday, September 25: Skit Night, 5:00pm – 9:30pm
Saturday, September 26: Preference Night: 3:00pm – 6:30pm
Sunday, September 27: Bid Day: 1:45pm – evening (schedules determined by individual sororities. Our office recommends that Jewish students work closely with WPA to ensure their needs are met for Yom Kippur observance.)
WPA and the Campus Involvement Center staff are also working with Rabbi Danielle Leshaw, Director of Hillel at Ohio University, to ensure that Jewish students interested in formal recruitment receive support to celebrate and observe the Jewish High Holy Days. The event schedule for Welcome Day on September 19 has been moved to an hour later than originally scheduled (now beginning at 1:00pm) to allow potential members to attend services Saturday morning. Women who observe Rosh Hashanah and are interested in participating in formal recruitment may work with me to coordinate attendance at Welcome Day events on September 19 and 20. Potential members are encouraged to inform me as soon as possible if they need to be absent from recruitment to observe Rosh Hashanah; this can be done by contacting me directly at the information below or indicating the intent to observe on your recruitment registration.
Individual chapter advisors, officers, and members have been informed that absences during recruitment due to observance of religious holidays are excused. Individual chapters have also been informed that Yom Kippur begins at sunset on Sunday, September 27 (Bid Day) and new members that wish to observe this holiday must be accommodated when planning Bid Day activities.
If you have questions regarding WPA recruitment, please contact me at the information below.
