Students work as bioinformatics interns

Josh's photo - previewJosh Welch worked as a bioinformatics intern this summer (June - August, 2009) at Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc. of Athens, OH. He designed and implemented software to assist in HIV-related assays, created a program to transfer raw data from laboratory instruments into a statistical software package, and constructed a database and web-based application program to store and access data produced by assays. His work involved the following skills: C++ programming, database programming (Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL), web programming (HTML,
JavaScript, Application Express),
software design, and knowledge of
biology.

Kyle's photo - previewKyle Kurz worked as a bioinformatics intern this summer (June 21 - August 21, 2009) for the Grotewold Lab in the departments of Plant Cellular and Molecular Biology and Plant Biotechnology Center at Ohio State University. He designed a web page to support data mining through the AGRIS database, wrote code to analyze input to the web page and report statistics stored in the database, and performed large-scale analysis of the Arabidopsis thaliana genome to augment the existing database. His work involved the following skills: C++,
SQL, Perl, Javascript and HTML
programming, CSS styling, MPI
communication, POSIX threading,
statistics and biology application.
