Sharlene Cleveland A College of Arts and Sciences sophomore from Euclid, Ohio, Sharlene is majoring in political science and German as well as working toward an African studies certificate. Her German Academic Exchange Service Scholarship will take her to Leipzig, Germany, where she will take courses and begin work on her senior thesis, which will address immigration issues. This scholarship award adds to Sharlene’s already impressive list of honors, which includes a McNair Scholarship and membership in the Sigma Alpha Lambda honors fraternity. After completing her undergraduate work, she plans to attend law school or graduate school in international studies.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a publicly funded independent organization of higher education institutions in Germany. Its 14 international offices provide information as well as financial support to highly qualified students and faculty for international research and study. One of the largest of those international offices is located in New York and focused on assisting faculty and current DAAD fellows in the U.S. and Canada.
