Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) The Ohio University Avionics Engineering Center conducted research on the Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) as part of the NASA-Langley Low Visibility Landing and Surface Operations (LVLASO) project (1997) and the NASA-Langley Runway Incursion Prevention System (RIPS) project (2000).
For the LVLASO test at Atlanta Hartsfield airport (ATL), the CPDLC system was incorporated into a Controller Interface (CI) workstation. For the RIPS test at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), the system was upgraded and renamed as the Contoller Communication and Situational Awareness Terminal (C-CAST).
