Carl Hawes is involved with design, implementation, application, and processing of data collection systems. These systems were utilized in Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), GPS Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS), VHF Data Broadcast (VDB) research, and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME). Currently Carl has been a consultant for the FAA program office concerning DME Systems throughout the National Airspace System (NAS).

Carl also helps to maintain the Avionics computer network through IT support and server maintenance.

Carl started at Avionics as a n undergraduate intern in 1996. He worked in the RFI group until his graduation in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He was then hired on full time as a Software Engineer. After a year with the center Carl switched positions to Research Engineer and is currently pursuing his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Carl is a member of Eta Kappa Nu EE honor society and a member of IEEE.
