for 2010 Commencement

Please see the general directions, which will get you to the Athens area, but then use the following variations for the final approach, to minimize your risk of long delays that might be caused by the congestion resulting from ongoing constructions projects in the City of Athens. In order to make your visit more enjoyable, we strongly encourage use of the following alternate routes to campus.

All routes will be signed and will have police officers directing traffic at key intersections on Friday, June 11, and Saturday, June 12, 2010. Even so, please allow extra time for travel. If you get lost, call the Ohio University Police Department at (740) 593-1911 for help.

Two special maps are available at the end of this page, that apply to all three of the specific directions.

Approaching on Eastbound US-33 (e.g., from Columbus)

Take the OH-682 Exit for The Plains (watch for message board sign).

Turn right at the end of the off-ramp.

Follow OH-682 south for approximately 4 miles.

Turn left onto West Union Street at the first traffic light after the railroad grade-level crossing. (This is where OH-56 West goes to the right; don't do that!)

Follow West Union Street to the next traffic light, at Shafer Street, and turn right.

Follow South Shafer Street to commencement parking.

Approaching on Eastbound OH-32 and US-50 (e.g., from Cincinnati)

Go through Albany, OH, passing the OH-681 exit. Note your odometer reading at the next traffic light (which is the only traffic light in the Albany area).

Turn left on Athens County Road 19, Radford Road (shortly after CR-19B and CR-30; about 3.8 miles after the traffic light in Albany; watch for message board sign).

Follow CR-19 until it ends at OH-56 (a little more than two miles).

Turn right on OH-56.

Keep going straight at the traffic light for OH-682, where OH-56 ends; the road continues as West Union Street.

Follow West Union Street to the next traffic light, at Shafer Street, and turn right.

Follow Shafer Street to commencement parking.

Approaching on Westbound OH-32 and US-50 (e.g., from Northeast Ohio, Parkersburg, WV, etc.)

Take the Stimson Avenue exit (watch for message board sign).

Turn right at the end of the off-ramp.

Proceed to the "T" intersection and turn left onto Stimson Avenue.

Remain on Stimson Avenue, which becomes Carpenter Street when you cross East State Street.

Follow Carpenter Street past Court Street and the old Armory; turn left onto Congress Street.

Congress Street becomes Richland Avenue at West Union Street; continue on Richland Avenue to commencement parking.
