Traffic Pattern Changes

• When entering a roundabout, yield to traffic already in the circle (vehicles coming from the left).

• Do not stop in the roundabout.

• Do not cross solid white lines to change lanes in the roundabout.

For traffic approaching the roundabout on OH-682 from US-33, OH-32, and US-50, there are two lanes:

• Use the right lane if you are going to cross the Hocking River and enter the campus on Richland Avenue (e.g., to reach Peden Stadium, the Convocation Center, or Baker University Center).

• Use the left lane if you are going to continue on OH-682 toward The Ridges, or if you are going to the Ohio University Inn on Richland Avenue.

US-33 Construction in Nelsonville

Roadwork on US-33 through Nelsonville is likely to cause delays. US-33 now follows the new Nelsonville Bypass routing as far south as Dorr Run Rd., just north of Nelsonville. Traffic is routed back into the city via W. Interchange Rd. The bypass is expected to be fully open in July or August, 2013.

Richland Avenue and Oxbow Trail Construction in Athens

Effective May 6, 2013, Richland Avenue is closed from West Green Drive intersection to West Mulberry Street. Oxbow Trail is closed, as shown below. A detour using Shafer and West Union streets, highlighted in yellow, below, routes motorists around the construction area. Pedestrians moving between Upper and Lower Campus will be routed around the site via West Mulberry Street, Park Place, and University Terrace to the all-purpose trail leading to West Green. Other pedestrian routes are through Baker University Center and the steps behind the Research and Technology Building on President Street. The bridge and Oxbow Trail will be reopened to vehicular and pedestrian traffic on August 21.

South Green Drive Construction and Construction Traffic

Two major construction projects will take place along South Green Drive this summer: erection of the Multipurpose Pavilion between Peden Stadium and the Ping Center and Phase I of the Housing Development Plan on the former Wolfe Street Apartments site. Construction vehicles will use South Green Drive and may slow or temporarily block traffic.

In addition, the University will be preparing utilities and infrastructure to support new construction as part of the Housing Development Plan. South Green Drive and University Terrace may be reduced to one lane or closed temporarily during this process. Be alert for signage and flaggers, and check #OhioUBuilds on Twitter for last-minute lane closures and changes.

Lancaster Street and Columbus Road Construction in Athens

This project includes road and sidewalk repairs on Lancaster Street between Carpenter and Second streets. Columbus Road will be reconstructed to add wider shoulders, bicycle lanes, and possibly a median strip. Traffic will be reduced to one lane during this project.
