Fall 2008 Move-in Info and Tips

As you plan to move to Ohio University this fall, here is the most current information about traffic and parking. Specific travel directions for each residence hall are listed below:

• Please follow the travel directions as described below for each residence hall. You may think you know a better way or a shortcut to your destination, but may find that we have closed streets or changed them to one-way as part of the move-in plan. The result is that you may find yourself needing to turn around and go back to the recommended route.
  
  
• First-year students only are invited to move in on Thursday, September 4, beginning at noon and Friday, September 5, beginning at 9 a.m. Upperclass students may move in on Saturday, September 6, and Sunday, September 7, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.
  
  
• As you approach each residential green, Ohio University staff members will provide specific directions based on the residence hall you need.
  
  
• Once you arrive at your residence hall, staff members will provide you with a campus map and write on it the room you're moving into and the time. You will have 30 minutes to unload your vehicle before you need to move it. You will be directed to a parking location where you can leave your car while you take care of room set-up, lunch, bookstores, etc.
  
  
• For most residence halls, the staff will be set up in the lobby to greet you and check you in. For New South Green residence halls, the staff will not be set up in every building, so you may actually check into your residence hall and get your keys in a building different from the one you're moving into. • If you decide to visit uptown bookstores or campus offices, please leave your car parked where it is rather than try to drive uptown. You'll find the uptown traffic to be heavy and difficult. It will likely take you much longer to drive and park, than to walk.
  
  
• Bromley Hall residents have been assigned specific times to move in (due to limited parking and access). For the benefit of all, please adhere to these times. They are listed below.
  
  
• If, due to emergency circumstances, you arrive for move in after 10 p.m. on any day, contact the Ohio University Police at (740) 593-1911. The police dispatcher will be able to contact the Residence Life staff person on duty for your particular residence hall so you can check in.

Travel Directions for Specific Halls and Greens

Travel Directions to South Green

These directions are for all Old and New South Green buildings.

Exit US 50/US 32 at OH 682. This is the exit near Peden Stadium and the Ohio University Inn and takes you to Richland Avenue. At the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp, you will turn right on Richland Avenue. Stay in the right-hand lane (left lane is for West Green only). You will cross the bridge over the Hocking River and turn right at the first light which is at S. Green Drive (just past Peden Stadium, which will be on your right). You will proceed on S. Green Drive past Oxbow Trail and University Terrace until you reach Wolfe Street.  Here a staff member will direct you depending upon the specific building to which you are going.

Travel Directions to East Green

These directions are for all East Green buildings except Bryan, Scott and Voigt which have specific directions below.

Exit US 50/US 32 at Stimson Avenue. This is the exit near Sonic restaurant. Turn left onto Stimson Avenue. Turn left at Mill Street Village (a brick apartment complex, on your left), then right onto Mill Street. Take the first street to the left off Mill (Stewart Street) and proceed to the second road to the right (East Union Street). There, a staff member will be available to assist.

Travel Directions to West Green

These are directions for all West Green buildings including the Convocation Center, but not including Bromley Hall which has different directions below.

Directions for the Convocation Center, James Hall and Wilson Hall:

Exit US 50/US 32 at OH 682. This is the exit near Peden Stadium and the Ohio University Inn, and takes you to Richland Avenue. At the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp, you will turn right onto Richland Avenue. Once you've turned onto Richland, move to the left lane and proceed straight through past South Green Drive. Just past the entrance to the Convocation Center Garage, take the first left, West Green Drive, and a staff member will be available to assist you.

Directions for Sargent, Treudley, Boyd and Ryors Halls:

Exit US 50/US 32 at OH 682. This is the exit near Peden Stadium and the Ohio University Inn, and takes you to Richland Avenue. At the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp, you will turn right on Richland Avenue. Once you've turned onto Richland, remain in the right-hand lane. Turn right at the light onto South Green Drive (Peden Stadium will be on your right). Turn left at the first road, Oxbow Trail. Proceed along Oxbow past Baker University Center (large building on your right). A staff member will be available to assist you.

Travel Directions to Scott Quad and Bryan Hall

Exit US 50/US 32 at OH 682. This is the exit near Peden Stadium and the Ohio University Inn, and takes you to Richland Avenue. At the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp, you will turn right on Richland Avenue. Stay in the right-hand lane (left lane is for West Green only). You will cross the bridge over the Hocking River and turn right at the first light which is at S. Green Drive (just past Peden Stadium, which will be on your right). You will proceed on S. Green Drive to University Terrace, directly in front of the Ping Center. Here a staff member will direct you.

Travel Directions to Voigt Hall

Exit US 50/US 32 at Stimson Avenue. This is the exit near Sonic restaurant. Turn left onto Stimson Avenue. Continue up Stimson to the traffic light at E. State St. Turn left onto E. State Street and continue to College Street. Turn left onto College Street and proceed to Voigt Hall (on your left).

Travel Directions to Bromley Hall

Exit US 50/US 32 at OH 682. This is the exit near Peden Stadium and the Ohio University Inn and takes you to Richland Avenue. At the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp, you will turn right onto Richland Avenue. Once you've turned onto Richland, move to the left-hand lane (right lane is for South Green only). Proceed to the first light, just past Peden Stadium which will be on your right. Turn left at the light, onto S. Shafer Street (this street is called S. Green Drive if you turn right and S. Shafer Street if you turn left). Follow S. Shafer Street to E. Union Street.  At E. Union Street, turn right. Follow E. Union St. uptown to S. High Street (just before Bromley Hall). Here a staff member will direct you.

Driving directions to Ohio University are available online. Also, the Ohio Department of Transportation has a Web site that allows you to check the condition of highways throughout the state. Visit www.odotonline.org/otis/ to check Ohio road conditions.

Check in Directions for New South Green Halls

Residence halls will officially open for first-year students on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 12 noon. The residence halls will officially open on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 9 a.m. for all upperclass students.
