
Jack Wright is an artist whose work is strongly informed by the culture
of the Appalachian mountains. A founding member of the Appalshop media
collective in Kentucky, he is an actor, documentary filmmaker, and
musician whose work has appeared on National Public Radio, PBS, June
Appal Recordings and in Hollywood films. His articles about Appalachian
art and artists˜particularly film and video˜have appeared in
Independent Spirit, Iron Mountain Review, Appalachian Journal and
other publications. Wright has twice received individual artist
fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council for his writing. In 2002-03 Jack
taught at Berea College where he was the National Endowment for the
Humanities Chair of Appalachian Studies. He lives in Athens, Ohio, and
works at the Ohio University School of Film.
