Mike Hess
I work in the Department of Residence Life on South Green. I completed a Master degree in Education at Ohio University in 1998 and worked at Berea College from 1998 until 2000. I have applied to the Cultural Studies in Education PhD program; this program has an interdisciplinary component and I plan to focus my research on how class and culture influence education, especially in rural Appalachia. Currently, I am enrolled in two doctoral classes. I have joined the ASA and plan to attend the conference in March. On a personal note, I am from Monterey, Virginia. Monterey is in Highland County located in the Allegheny Highlands near Hot Springs, Virginia. I remain interested in community issues and community service especially in Appalachia.
