Guidelines for Recommendations
In accordance with Ohio University Policy & Procedure 18.031, recommendations for conferment of Emeritus/Emerita status begin in the department of current service by a process established by that department. In most areas, it is similar to the process for promotion.
Following approval at the departmental level, nominations are forwarded through the proper administrative chain of command to the President, who may recommend Emeritus/Emerita status to the Board of Trustees. Faculty nominations are submitted to the Board at their spring meeting. Administrative nominations are submitted to the Board in the fall.
A written nomination (one page) must accompany the appropriate form and address the following factors as well as any others deemed pertinent by the department:
- Length of service at Ohio University (ten years minimum except in special circumstances)
- Quality of teaching, research, and service or performance in an administrative position
- Overall contribution to the University
- Service to society beyond the University community
- Recognition and honors
Administrative emeritus recommendations are due September 13, 2010 and will be reviewed at the November 18-19, 2010 Board meeting.
Faculty emeritus recommendations are due March 14, 2011 and will be reviewed at the April 21-22, 2011 Board meeting.
Note!
Due to the Early Retirement Incentive Program (ERIP) and Voluntary Employment Separation Program (VESP) options that recently became available to Ohio University employees, both faculty and administrative emeritus nominations will be accepted
until 5:00 p.m. on June 1, 2011.
Approved nominations will be presented to the Board of Trustees at their June meeting.
Faculty emeritus recommendations already submitted, approved, and formerly scheduled to go before the board in April will be held until the June meeting.
