Guidelines for Recommendation for Emeritus/Emerita Status
In accordance with Ohio University Policy & Procedure 18.031, recommendations for conferment of Emeritus/Emerita status begin in the department of current service by a process established by that department. In most areas, it is similar to the process for promotion.
Following approval at the departmental level, nominations are forwarded through the proper administrative chain of command to the President, who may recommend Emeritus/Emerita status to the Board of Trustees. Faculty nominations are submitted to the Board at their spring meeting. Administrative nominations are submitted to the Board in the fall.
A written nomination (one page) must accompany the appropriate form and address the following factors as well as any others deemed pertinent by the department:
Length of service at Ohio University (minimum of ten years)
Quality of teaching, research, and service or performance in an administrative position
Overall contribution to the University Service to society beyond the University community
Recognition and honors
