Ohio University Distinguished Professor Award
The Distinguished Professor award carries a lifetime designation that recognizes scholarly accomplishment, professional reputation and contributions to the university.
Faculty in a wide variety of disciplines, from the natural sciences to fine arts, have received this award. Recipients are rewarded with one quarter of professional leave and the privilege of naming one student annually to receive a Distinguished Professor Scholarship.
The Distinguished Professor award is considered to be the highest academic honor bestowed on Ohio University faculty.
Nominations accepted for Distinguished Professor Monday, April 7, 2008
Nominations for the 2008 Distinguished Professor award are being accepted until April 11. Nominations are encouraged and welcomed from all schools, departments and academic disciplines at Ohio University. Nominations may come from directors, chairs or any faculty member. Nominations may be submitted directly to David Drabold in Clippinger 357B on the Athens campus.
Distinguished Professors are chosen based on outstanding artistic, literary, historical or scientific achievements, or other worthy accomplishments attaining wide recognition. Nominated faculty members must have tenure and a minimum of five years of service to Ohio University. While a positive assessment of effectiveness as a teacher is an essential requirement, the prime consideration is scholarly or creative contributions that have received substantial recognition beyond the Ohio University community.
All nominations should be accompanied by supporting information, including bibliography, letters of support, representative publications and other pertinent materials. Letters of support should not exceed 10 in number. The nominating letter itself should include a summary of the nominee's career and qualifications. The announcement of the 2008 Distinguished Professor will be made during fall quarter 2008.
