The title, emeritus/a, was introduced by then OHIO President Herman James to the Board of Trustees in 1940 to honor faculty and staff who had served the University upon their retirement.
Since Charles Moffat Copeland was granted the first title, Professor Emeritus of Accounting, in 194, more than 600 faculty and staff have been awarded emeritus or emerita status.
Emeriti Association President Drusilla Riley Evarts, professor emerita of journalism and three-time OHIO alumna, and her colleagues are enthusiastic about On the Green Weekend.
“We want not only to involve alumni who are returning, but also former faculty who keep their ties up with the University,” said Evarts. The Emeriti Association will plan for at least one formal gathering; then, will simply “be around to meet with our former students and our former colleagues,” she said.
An All-Emeriti Reception will be held on Saturday, May 31 from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at Baker University Center's Latitude 39. Also, Emeriti will have reserved seating for Saturday's On the Green Barbecue. See the complete weekend schedule here.
