Our Promise

OHIO’s Honors Tutorial College (HTC) is one of a kind: the only degree-granting tutorial college in the United States. Our students benefit from a learning experience like no other, working one-on-one with faculty members in tutorials. HTC patterns its fundamental teaching approach after the centuries old tutorial system used at Oxford and Cambridge universities in Great Britain. One-on-one and small-group tutorials offer a unique, student-centered approach to undergraduate education. In the past four years alone, more than 18 published works have resulted from collaborations between HTC students and faculty.

Your Support

Founded in 2001, our Office of Nationally Competitive Awards helps promising students compete for national awards such as the Fulbright, Marshall, Rhodes and Truman scholarships. With your support, we are now counted among the top 25 Fulbright–producing research universities in the country, and among peer institutions, we are tied with Indiana University for the highest number of students receiving Fulbright Awards in the past four years.

We work continually to enrich the educational experience of our students, but our success depends on the generous support of you – our alumni and friends. Because we recruit only the brightest students, we must compete financially with other universities. While most prospective students agree that they would prefer HTC because of our tutorial learning system, other universities are able to offer more generous scholarship packages. With your support, we seek to attract more exceptionally motivated undergraduate student and provide them with a learning environment uniquely responsive to their needs.

We believe that you should be able to support what matters most to you, so you can designate your gift to any area you desire. We have several exciting current initiatives that will benefit from your generosity:

• Investing in scholarships to ensure that we continue to draw the most promising students;
  
  
• Enhancing research apprenticeships to include year-round opportunities;
  
  
• Increasing funding for the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards, which has a seen a significant increase in the number of students who have competed for and won prestigious, national awards;
  
  
• Offering increased opportunities for student travel to conferences, as well as opportunities for them to conduct research, intern or study abroad.

Private giving always has had a substantial impact on HTC. Thanks to the generosity and support of HTC alumni and friends, the Common Room, which officially opened last spring, has become a haven for students. The addition is a significant upgrade in both the size and quality compared to the former Common Room, and now serves to bolster the already noteworthy community of HTCers. Not only do students meander in throughout the day to work and socialize, but they also attend brown bag lunches, lectures, ONCA informational sessions, and other college-sponsored events.
