Attending a College Fair

Each year Undergraduate Admissions receives invitations to hundreds of college fairs, making it impossible to send an admissions professional to every event. These college fairs are designed to allow high school students and their parents the opportunity to meet with representatives from various colleges and universities around the country. This is often a student’s first contact with Ohio University, and it is advantageous to participate in as many programs as possible.

As an OHIO VAAN representative, you may be asked to accompany an admissions professional to a college fair. College fairs offer prospective students and/or their parents the opportunity to meet briefly with a university representative and to receive information regarding academic programs, financial aid and student life. The students who attend college fairs may be very knowledgeable about Ohio University, somewhat aware, or totally unfamiliar.

Please note:  OHIO VAAN members will be expected to a complete a brief, online training before representing OHIO at a college fair.  You will be contacted by Undergraduate Admissions to arrange a training session.

Visiting a High School

High school visits allow for more individualized attention to prospective students. Students are many times required to sign up with their high school guidance office before attending your session. This allows you the opportunity to meet with only students who have expressed interest in attending OHIO. Typically these visits last from 30 minutes to an hour, and can take place any time during the school day depending on the high school’s availability. A visit to a high school needs to be scheduled well in advance. Each school has its own set of rules as to when visits can be made and the amount of notice required. Before scheduling a high school visit, you will need to clear the school and date with Undergraduate Admissions. Many schools limit the number of colleges their students can meet with, so it is important that Ohio University not be represented more than once.
