In the College of Arts and Sciences, majors fall within the academic areas known as humanities, the social sciences, and the sciences. The 19 departments that make up the College of Arts and Sciences offer exciting and dynamic programs of study in 26 liberal arts majors, 54 career-related majors, 27 minors, and seven certificate programs. Current top major choices include creative writing; the pre-law tracks in English, philosophy, history, political science, and sociology; as well as forensic chemistry, meteorology, and programs with environmental emphases. Many departments provide opportunities for experiential learning through internships or undergraduate research.
Degree
Depending upon the major you select, you will earn either a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in the College of Arts and Sciences. It is also possible to earn a double major or complete requirements for a dual degree. Masters and doctoral level degrees are available in select programs as well. Special Programs and Opportunities
The array of courses in language and culture attracts students from all majors. In addition to the more standard fare of French, German, or Latin, you will find opportunities to study Russian, Italian, Swahili, or Chinese. Opportunities to study at more than a dozen education abroad sites sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences are also encouraged; you could earn course credit in locations as familiar as London and Greece or as far away as Japan and Australia.
