The Ohio University Web site has undergone many changes in the past few months, and the latest is the launch of an improved search engine.
The new search engine "gives a detailed scope of information which will enhance site visitors' surfing experience," said Paul Ladwig, Director of Ohio University Media Productions. It responds to a user query with a list of Web sites that have been ranked to make finding exact information easier. Each listing also includes some of the sites' introductory text or the contents of a descriptive meta tag.
The older keyword search engine (which allows users to search through individual Web servers across campus, but which provides only a list of page titles) is still available. Should you like to use this version, just follow the advanced search link.
This new search engine is the latest fruit of the collaboration between Media Productions and Administrative Systems. Special thanks go out to Administrative Systems' Ivan Chang and Don Pendergast for their long hours of hard work.
A reminder to university pagemasters: the new search engine prominently uses meta tags, so please remember to incorporate them into your pages. The search engine will be indexed on a monthly basis, so please remember to add those tags when you make your next page revisions.
