Governor Taft Announces Appointments to Ohio University Board of Trustees

5/14/99

C. David Snyder and Deland D. Basora have been named to the Ohio University Board of Trustees. Governor Bob Taft announced the appointments Friday, May 14.

Lakewood resident Snyder will replace Paul Leonard of Dayton, whose term expired this year. Snyder is the chairman and chief executive officer of Crooked River Brewing Co. and president of Quest Investments. He graduated cum laude from Ohio University and will serve until his term expires in 2008. Snyder is a member of the university's Executive Advisory Board and Foundation Board, and is a trustee of the Great Lakes Science Center. Mr. Snyder has also established scholarship funds at Ohio University's College of Business.

Basora will be replacing Erik Roush as one of two student trustees who sit on the Board. He is a sophomore marketing major with a minor in interpersonal communications. Basora is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta honorary and Beta Theta Pi and is the recipient of a Dean's List scholarship.

According to a press release from the governor's office, "the Board of Trustees has the authority to hire, set compensation of, and remove the president and such number of professors, teachers and other employees as may be deemed necessary by the board. The board shall do all things necessary to insure the university is properly maintained and operates on a successful and continuous basis. Members are compensated for expenses only."

There are nine Ohio University Trustees who serve eight-year terms. The Board is completed by two student trustees, who serve two-year terms.
