ATHENS, Ohio -- Three administrators were honored for distinguished service to Ohio University during a ceremony Monday where they were presented with the 1998-99 Outstanding Administrator Awards.

This year's recipients are Lora Munsell, director of degree programs at University College; Dave Puzzuoli, director of the Office of Professional and Corporate Services on the Eastern Campus; and Ralph Six, maintenance supply buyer. Each will receive $1,000 for professional interests. Vice President for Administration Gary North presented the awards at the Baker Center ceremony.

There were 37 nominees for the awards sponsored by the university's Administrative Senate. Selection was made by a nine-member committee chaired by Judy Burke, project manager for Administrative Systems.

The Senate also commended 100 administrators for service, ranging from 10 to 30 years, and recognized eight others on their retirement. Retirees honored include James Bryant, vice-president for Regional Higher Education, 32 years; Stephen Malone, applications programming specialist in the Administrative Systems Computer Service Center, 30 years; Bruce Morgan, director of electric operations and energy, 31 years; Gene Reed, director of food service, 30 years; Rudy Rodgers, systems support specialist in Computer Services, 31 years; Betty Simon, associate director of housing, 30 years; Tish Wagner, assistant director of operations in the Office of Admissions, 30 years; and Randy Welch, manager of Stores Receiving, 33 years.

Munsell has worked for University College since August 1986, where she began as a counselor before taking her current position in July 1998. She was praised for her ability to connect with students she advises and for her efforts with students who are particularly in need of guidance.

Puzzuoli has been director of the Office of Professional Corporate Services at Eastern Campus since July 1989. He was praised for his creation of several programs, including an internationally recognized summer program for gifted children, a forum to encourage collaboration among education, business and industry and a program to enhance Belmont County teachers' knowledge of marine biology, oceanography, geology and tropical plant botany.

Six, who has been working in purchasing since January 1986, was praised for his attention to the ideals of the university in executing his responsibilities, which include purchasing a variety of items to overseeing large building and renovation contracts.
