Ohio University Hosts PBS Teleconference on Virtual Universities Feb. 3

"Virtual Universities: Online and On Target?" is the topic of a live, interactive teleconference presented by PBS on Thursday, February 3, from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Ohio University's host site is Alden Library 315 (Friends of the Library room). The teleconference is free and open to the entire university community.

Representatives from Western Governors University, University of Phoenix, Southern Regional Education Consortium (Electronic Campus), and the United States Open University will discuss their programs and respond to audience questions.

Some of the topics to be covered include: How successful are virtual universities? Are they fulfilling their mission? Are they changing the face of higher education or distorting its vision? Are they pacesetters over the long haul for the future of high-quality higher education or will they merely add to the debate over teaching and learning in the electronic world?

Broadcasts of these conferences at Ohio University are sponsored by the University Libraries, and the offices of the Associate Provost for Information Technology, Regional Higher Education, and Independent Study, with assistance from the office of Educational Telecommunications. The last conference in the series, "How to Customize an Online Course," will be broadcast on April 6, 2000.
