Ohio University College of Education Hosts Annual IDE Conference

The Ohio University College of Education is hosting the annual Institute for Democracy in Education (IDE) Conference October 1-2, 1999 in McCracken Hall. The conference, "Critical Literacy for Democracy," is open to the public and the conference costs are as follows: $25.00 for IDE members, $35.00 for non-IDE members, $15.00 for full-time students, or the conference can be taken for Ohio University credit. Registration information can be obtained from Jaylynne Hutchinson, Director of the IDE Main Office, at (740) 593-9827 or through e-mail at democracy@ohiou.edu.

The conference deals with issues of "literacy" understood broadly. All of the sessions at the conference are interactive, dialogue-based workshops. Workshop topics represent exciting and effective educational practices and will address many different issues and therefore will have something for everyone including kindergarten-grade 12 teachers, students, community activists, environmentalists, and university professors.
