Gateway Computers Arrive on Campus

The first wave of new Gateway computers are being installed in Ohio University freshman residence halls this week.

More than 500 computers and 1,000 Okidata laser jet printers arrived on the Athens campus Monday morning. Shortly after, student workers transported the first 57 PC-filled cow boxes to Lincoln Hall, an all-male residence hall on East Green.

"By the end of this week, nine of the 23 freshman residence halls will have computers and printers installed," said Gordon Pettey, assistant to the director of residence and campus auxiliary services.

If all goes according to schedule, Pettey says he expects installation to be complete by August 27.

Ohio University is the first state-supported university in Ohio to provide first-year students with computers in their rooms.
