Ohio Notes of Interest:

Two Athens High Alumni Graduate
from OU-COM

For two Athens High School graduates from the early 1990s, the end of the decade marks the realization of a major goal: their graduation on July 11 from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM).

Both women, Julie Ploutz-Adams and Mary Willy, say that after deciding upon a career in medicine, their decision to attend medical school close to home grew out of their exposure to osteopathic medicine and OU-COM.

At OU-COM, Ploutz-Adams was vice president of Student Council and class secretary, as well as being active in the Family Practice Club and other organizations.

At OU-COM, Willy was chapter president of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association. During her tenure, the chapter received national recognition for increasing its membership. She also served as national vice president for the USA International Health Program and helped develop initiatives at OU-COM. Her interest in international health took her on two four-week trips to Kenya, where she and a dozen other OU-COM students learned about local medical practices while helping to provide medical care.
