Rhodes Hired as Assistant Men's Basketball
Coach

University head basketball
coach Larry Hunter announced that John
Rhodes has been hired as assistant men's
basketball coach and will assume the
position's duties on July 1, 1999. Rhodes
comes to Ohio after spending the last two
seasons as an assistant at St. Bonaventure
University in New York.
Rhodes,
a former Bobcat center, played for both
Danny Nee and Billy Hahn from 1985 to
1989. In the Ohio career record books, he
ranks third in field goal percentage
(.567) and blocked shots (121), and is
ninth in rebounds (744).
Before
working at SBU, Rhodes served one season
as an assistant coach at the University of
North Florida. Before that, Rhodes played
professional basketball for one season in
Germany, two in France and five in
Iceland, In 1992, he was named the
Icelandic Basketball League's Most
Valuable Player and in 1993 he earned the
Athlete of the year Award from the city of
Hafnarfjordur, Iceland. Rhodes also
coached youth basketball clubs in Iceland
and was the head coach of the I.R. Club
Team in Reykjavik, Iceland, from
1994-96.
