Spring Literary Festival

Today's Events:

  • "Sustainable Communities: A Global View" is the topic to be addressed by Lois Whealey, President of the Association of American University Women. She will speak today at noon in Baker Center Room 124 as part of International Week.

  • The Spring Literary Festival continues with lectures by Mark Strand (noon), Richard Rod (1 p.m.), and Ann Beattie (7:30 p.m.), and a reading by Vivian Gornick (8:30 p.m.). All events are in Irvine Auditorium and are free and open to the public.

  • Philosophy Forum Keynote: Arthur Fine, John Evans Professor of Philosophy at Northwestern University,will lecture on "Relativism and the Practice of Science" in Anderson Auditorium in Scripps Hall at 5:30 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public.

  • The School of Theater presents "Macbeth": 8 p.m. at the Forum Theater. Through Saturday (including one matinee). For tickets, call 593-4800.

OHIO UNIVERSITY NAMES NEW DEAN OF LIBRARIES

Julia Zimmerman, associate director of Georgia Tech Library in Atlanta, has been named dean of university libraries at Ohio University. Current library Dean Hwa-Wei Lee has announced he will retire in August.

Zimmerman has been in her current position at Georgia Tech since 1993, overseeing the day-to-day activities of the library, supervising three assistant directors and coordinating maintenance and building projects with the university's facilities office.

At Ohio, Zimmerman will be the chief executive officer of the university libraries, reporting to the provost. Zimmerman will oversee a staff of some 200 contract, classified and student employees working in the library system.
