Prof Earns Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Award
Ohio University Assistant Professor of English
Mark
Halliday has received a 1998 Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Award
and at three-year grant for $105,000 to support his poetry
writing.
Halliday is among 10 poets or novelists nationwide to receive the
award, which is intended to give writers more time to devote to the
craft and connect with their community. Recipients are recommended to
the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Board of directors by a committee of
distinguished writers, editors and academics.
In conjunction with Halliday's award, the Dairy
Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center in Athens received a
three-year, $30,000 grant to create a local literary program in
partnership with Halliday.

State Street in Athens; April 20, form 3 to 5 p.m., Ramada Inn in
Nelsonville; and April 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mac-N-Bec's in
Albany. Free immunizations also will be provided at area
kindergarten registrations as follows: Athens East Elementary,
April 12, from 8 a.m. to noon; Athens West, April 12, from 1 to 5
p.m.; Nelsonville-York, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Morrison,
April 19, 8 to 11 a.m.; Chauncey, April 19, from 12:45 to 5 p.m.;
Trimble, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; The Plains, April 26, 8
a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and Coolville, April 28, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For

- GED on TV continues. Ohio
University Public Television will broadcast the 43-part series
to help people obtain their high school equivalency diploma. The
program continues Saturdays at 7 and 7:30 a.m. and Mondays at 3
p.m. Students can register and choose to purchase affordable
workbooks by calling 1-800-228-READ. Read
