OU-COM Alum Named President-Elect of OU Alumni Board

William Burke, D.O. ('88), assistant professor of family medicine at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM), was named president-elect of the Ohio University Alumni Association Board of Directors last fall.

Burke has been involved with the OU alumni organization since his graduation and currently serves as executive vice chairman. He was president of the OU-COM Society of Alumni and Friends from 1993-95 and secretary in 1992. Burke also has served on the board, which represents more than 150,000 graduates, since 1996.

In his new capacity, Burke plans to work with other board colleagues to position the alumni association in the next few years among the top 20 alumni programs at public universities by boosting the breadth of the programs and services for alumni, as well as the level of alumni participation.

• COM 2K: Communication for the New Millennium is the theme of this year's Communication Week. It began April 25 and runs through April 30. Today is Visual Communication Day. A complete listing of events is available at the Web site.
• Free childhood immunizations will be offered by the mobile health unit of the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine according to the following schedule: April 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mac-N-Bec's in Albany. Free immunizations also will be provided at area kindergarten registrations as follows: The Plains, today from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and in Coolville on April 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 1-800-844-2654.
• Free breast and cervical cancer screenings will be offered May 4 from 1-4 p.m. at the Athens County Department of Human Services office in Chauncey. The screenings are made possible by the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine's mobile health unit. Call 740-593-2432 or 1-800-844-2654 to schedule an appointment.
